Learn more about the Saint Bernard.
PB (short for Peanut butter) was given up because they just couldn't care for her. She had spent the last 6 or more months living in a horse trailer with another XL breed dog. This poor girl is definetaly under weight and will need some time to get a bit chunker. She is a beautiful pure breed st. Bernard! This is what the foster mom has to say about PB (jessie): Jessie is the most approachable dog we have ever had. She can be taken virtually anywhere and is a people magnet. She is easily approached and welcomes petting and hugs from all (small children to adults)! She has been to several street festivals and is the hit of the day with all kinds of strangers and other dogs walking about. She is of instant celebrity status anywhere she goes!!! Could easily be a service dog or to visit nursing homes!!
Jessie is very tolerant of cats for which we have two (kitten and adult). Although she is very curious of the kittens playfulness and elusiveness and having being swatted several times she has shown tolerance and respect. So she can certainly be trusted with any household cat. Jessie is also very tolerant and behaves well with all other dogs both large and small.
Jessie would do well in a one dog or two dog household.
Although Jessie has displayed some food aggression at first, once she became comfortable with her other fur friends and her place in the hierarchy she became more tolerant to sharing. Jessie does not like to eat her food from a ground level bowl as she will flip it over and eat from the floor while laying down. We purchased an elevated feeding station and she is doing well with it as she does not have to crane her neck too far down. Jessie is not big on treats although her favorites seem to be Pupperoni and small cheese cubes.
NEEDS WORK ON HOUSE TRAINING!!! She will pee on rugs and inconspicuous areas if your not paying attention. Jessie does not do well crated. When away for longer stretches of time during the day we have confined her to a room with some success . We used a child gate so she can see into the rest of the house with still enough room to move around in our bedroom while away at work for the day. Having our second dog with her while we are away also seems to help any separation issues we were having.
JESSIE IS SUPER SMART / EAGER TO PLEASE AND TRAINABLE!!!. She NEEDS someone who can spend MOST of the day with her (7-8 away hours is TOO LONG at least for now) especially while working to house break her since she is not crate-able.
Jessie at first would invade private space and jump on you on the couch or in the bed. This has subsided somewhat as we notice her not being as clingy than she was at first. Perhaps she feeling more
