Cartman was rescued from the local shelter after he came in severly overweight, fearful of everyone, and in poor health. Lucky for him we have a foster who specializes in smaller dogs who need abit of work! This is what his foster had to say about him:

This chunky cartoon looking character is “Cartman”.  And he is looking for a very special human to call his own. Cartman is “different” from other dogs.  He has a head “tilt”, he has floppy front paws, and he has a “curve” to his back.  But don’t tell him that.  He gets along just fine even with his differences that he was born with.  He can see, but he takes time to focus. He can hear, but at times he will not respond.  But, once he settles in he is just fine.  He does have trouble going down stairs, and would do best in a home with no stairs.  Due to Cartman's physical issues it is recommend that there be no small children in the home.  Cartman is a “work in progress”.  He doesn’t appear to know what a belly rub is, and will express a warning growl when he wants you to stop touching his belly.  Well, stop!  Cartman does not like his paws touched, well don’t.  Cartman doesn’t like his tail touched.  And he will get really mad when you touch his tail.  Let’s just say Cartman has not had the greatest life.  The adopter we are looking for is someone who can continue to work with him.  He will at times seek out attention.  He will be playful and spin in circles.  He will gently play with your hands. But he doesn’t give kisses and he does not play with toys.  But will every now and then lick your fingers or your toes.  He is not the type to cuddle.  But he is a wonderful companion that just wants to get up on the couch next to you and keep you company.

Cartman gets along with other dogs. And he wants to play with the other dogs in the home.  But he is a little too big for them.  Cartman would do well with another dog his size or bigger.  Cartman will bark at the cat from a distance, but really doesn’t pay any attention to them.

Cartman is house trained, sort of.  Cartman tends to like to drink a lot of water and has to be monitored.  When he needs to go out he will stand by the door and at times will bark to go out or come in.  But if you take too long to let him out, well, expect a puddle on the floor.   But, Cartman will look for a “puddle pad” to go on.  (Cartman has had extensive blood work done.  And he is just a dog that likes to drink water.)

Cartman tends to like women.  He is in a home with a man and it has been a slow process.  But there has been progress every day.  And the man in the home just continues to work with him. Cartman likes to go walks. And, walks well on a leash.  But he can only go for about a 5 minute walk and then due to his weight he is done, and you might even have to pick him up and carry him home.  Cartman also appears to have been an outside dog and likes to lay on the back porch for hours. Yes, Cartman is F-A-T and is on a strict diet.  Cartman likes food in large quantities and needs to have his intake of food monitored at all times.

Let’s be honest.  Cartman probably won’t like you when he first meets you. He can be a little snippy, but he has never bit anyone.  Cartman is going to need some time to just be left alone to decompress when he gets into his new home.  Cartman really is a very deserving loving little dog that is bonding very well with his foster mom.  Everyday Cartman makes more and more positive progress.  Cartman just needs that one very special person to give him a chance to be “their” little special dog.  Bottom line!!! Cartman needs someone who will be patient with him, someone who will be kind to him, someone who will not pick on him if he takes his time. And most of all he needs someone who will love him just the way he is.  If you think you are that special person, and would like to inquiry about adopting Cartman please fill out an adoption application.
